Q: I have heard that Bismuth Oxychloride is an ingredient in alot of popular mineral makeup . What is it and why is it used?
A: Barely There Mineral Wear does not and never will use this in our products. Bismuth Oxychloride is a heavy mineral and a pearlizing ingredient that is used because it is an inexpensive filler but it makes the makeup look nice. It is a mineral but not found in the earth, but yet it is a by product of lead and copper processing that is mixed with chloride (a compound of chlorine). It is used to fill or "bulk up" products, and some say it comes with a heavy price. The heaviness can result in clogged pores and/or irritated skin and can make you itch. Do not use if you have acne, rosacea or sensitive skin. Bismuth has to be forced into the pores (hense the buffing technique) otherwise it will slide off the face. You should never use a brush on your face with such force and for such a long period of time. You can actually give your skin microscopic abraisons by doing so. You do not have to do this with my mineral makeup. So those that say their makeup is irritant free are lying.
Q: What are parabens
A: A toxic chemical known as methyl, polpyl, butyl, ethyl, and benzyl is a chemical preservative that seeps into the tissue after being applied. Studies have found traces of paraben in breast cancer tumors. This is why you have seen alot of products like sunscreen listed as Paraben free. Alot of the companies that put the ingredient Bismuth Oxychloride in their makeup will also use a paraben because Bismuth will turn yellow after time. Want a more tehnical explanation check this site BREAST CANCER FUND and in the search box type in parabens. There you will find #3 Parabens Chemical Fact Sheet.
Q: Are your products gluten free?
A: This has been a frequent question that I was not prepared to answer at one time. We 100% Gluten free except for our lipstick (we will supply gluten free at a later date), and our Toffee colored original eyeliner. The only thing in question was our vitamin E used in our toners and through research have discovered that we buy from our suppliers vitamin E which is derived from soy. Q: Why is fragrance bad in makeup?
A: Fragrance is a irritant and if inhaled can trigger headaches, asthma, eye, nose, and throat irritation. Fragrance also masks phthalates which act as endocrine disruptions that may cause obesity, reproduction and developmental harm.
Q: Why do so many companies use talc in their mineral makeup?
A: Talc is a very cheep filler. Remember the bigger companies are in this business for high profit. Talc is closely related to the potent carcinogen asbestos. It has been shown to cause tumors in the ovaries and lungs and also linked to endometriosis. Check out the dirty dozen ingredients at the greenguide.com
Q: Why powdered/loose minerals?
A: Loose mineral companies are finally catching on to the popularity for a very good reason. In order to create a liquid foundation, manufacturers add water, oil, waxes, petrochemicals, synthetic humectants, gums, and fillers (like Talc) to the mineral colorants. They also add dyes and preservatives. Our loose, dry minerals don't require preservatives, and all of those irritating ingredients are completely unnecessary. Large companies are corporations that are designed to generate profit. Your skin's health is not their concern. Natural minerals cost more than cheap synthetic fillers and dyes. The bottom line of these corporations is profit. Ours is quality, purity, and performance.
Q: There are so many other companies out there, how do I choose which one I want to order from?
A: You need to be an aggressive consumer. Research the ingredients (if you can find them on the company's web site). I got into the mineral makeup field because I wanted to make something good for our skin. Alot of the other companies are now jumping on the mineral makeup band wagon for profit reason only and are putting bad ingredients in their makeup. There are alot of other small business owners out there that have great ingredients in their mineral makeup and are in the business for the right reasons.
Q: What are your ingredients?
A: I use only Cosmetic Grade Mica, Zinc Oxide, Kosher Rice Powder, Titanium Dioxide, Allantoin, Kaolin Clay, 100% pure silk powder and iron oxides. Barely There Mineral Wear contains no liquids, no fragrances, and no preservatives.
Q: What is your SPF?
A: I am a independent small business owner and it is very expensive to have your product tested. I can tell you that I put more than the minimal amount of Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide to give my foundation a SPF of 15 or better. But we recommend wearing a sunscreen of some other form on your face along with our mineral makeup. We WILL NOT make claims that our makeup will be all you need. Melanoma is on the rise and can be fatal. Also, if you notice any tiny lines on your face, these symptoms of aging come primarily from sun damage, not from dryness. Sun damage can take years (5, 10 or even more) to show the results of the damage to your skin.
Q: I am sensitive to chemicals and fragrances. Can I wear Barely There Mineral Wear?
A: My products were developed for chemically sensitive customers (like myself). I cannot guarantee you won’t have a reaction, but I have found that it is well-tolerated by many chemically sensitive people. I have actually had people tell me that after wearing the foundation for a month or two that is has calmed down thier rosacea.
Q: I am very athletic and am always on the go. Will the makeup sweat off or wash off if I go swimming?
A: We have seen claims from other mineral makeup companies that their product are waterproof. No mineral makeup that we have seen on the market is waterproof. Depending on the ingredients and the percentages used they can be water resistant, which ours is.
Q: I have this color of eye shadow that I bought from xyz company and I absolutely love it. I don’t see a similar color in your line. Can you make it?
A: This is why our company is different than any other. Yes, we can try to make it, especially if it is a neutral color. Send us a sample in a small zip lock baggie and we will see what we can do.
Q: I bought this one color of eye shadow but I really don’t like it, what can I do.
A: This is why we offer samples of our foundation, eye shadow and blush. If you are really unhappy, drop us an email an explain exactly what it is you are displeased with and we will see what we can do.
Q: I bought this blush and don’t really care for it as a blush but love it as an eye shadow.
A: This, again is what makes our company different. We love to hear suggestions and comments like this. Drop us an email, and tell us what color it is and we may formulate that into a eye shadow.

A: I try to fill orders within one business day, but please allow up to 1 week for delivery. Certain product are made fresh, or may be out of stock even if my web site shows it is in stock. I do alot of shows and also have numerous local customers so the quantity in stock may not be correct.
